DRAGON’S BLOOD PALM
Legendary palm indigenous to the Canary Islands and Morrocco. This palm was the royal cartouche of both the pharaohs of Egypt and the Royal Houses of Mesopotamia. There is also a connection with the legends of Jason and the Argonauts and the 12 labors of Hercules where one task was to kill a great monster from whose blood sprang up dragons. The sap from this tree was sold as Dragon’s Blood for cures and alchemical potions from Greco-Roman times through the middle ages. Frost tender. Zone 9 |
RUSSIAN RINGING CEDAR Fabled kundalini tree of the Anastasia book series. This close relative of the Swiss Stone Pine can handle cold temperatures in heavy soils and still produce superior edible pine nuts which are used for eating, healing, pressing oil, flour and also make excellent wildlife habitat. A choice replacement for the native western white pine which has been decimated to less than 10% of its original population. Will grow in wetland edge environments making it a good wetland mitigation planting with habitat values to restore lost white pine niche. Immune to whiter pine blister rust. Zone 3 |
